Orihuela Costa – beaches, golf courses and year-round infrastructure
Orihuela Costa is a coastal area administratively belonging to the municipality of Orihuela and partly bordering Torrevieja, located south of Torrevieja and approximately 50 minutes from Alicante Airport. It is not a single town but a long stretch of districts and residential areas extending along the Mediterranean coastline. The most important include Punta Prima, Playa Flamenca, La Zenia, Cabo Roig, Dehesa de Campoamor and Mil Palmeras, as well as inland residential and golf areas such as Villamartín, Los Dolses, La Rioja, Lomas de Cabo Roig, Las Filipinas, Blue Lagoon, Los Altos, Dream Hills and the PAU 8 surroundings.
The region is one of the most popular property purchase locations on the southern Costa Blanca. It combines direct proximity to the sea with very well-developed infrastructure and a large international community, which allows it to function all year round, not only during the summer season. Many urbanisations are permanently inhabited by residents from different European countries, meaning restaurants, shops and services remain open in winter as well.
The coastline of Orihuela Costa consists of both small rocky coves and wide sandy beaches with gentle access to the water. Many have been awarded the Blue Flag and offer full facilities including promenades, beach bars and lifeguards during the season. The best known beaches include Playa Flamenca, La Zenia, Cala Capitán in Cabo Roig and the wide sandy beaches of Campoamor and Mil Palmeras. They are well maintained and suitable for daily use by residents, not only tourists.
Orihuela Costa offers one of the most developed infrastructures in the southern Costa Blanca. There are shopping centres (including Zenia Boulevard), supermarkets in every district, international schools, private clinics, restaurants, gyms, sports clubs and numerous services operating twelve months a year. Nearby you will also find some of the region’s best-known golf courses: Villamartín Golf, Las Ramblas Golf, Real Club de Golf Campoamor and Las Colinas Golf & Country Club. For this reason, the area is attractive both for permanent residents and for investors interested in holiday rentals.
The location provides quick access to nearby towns and urban services. Orihuela Costa has public bus transport, taxis costing around €10 locally and numerous cycling routes.
Distances:
Torrevieja – approx. 8 km
Pilar de la Horadada – approx. 12 km
Guardamar del Segura – approx. 20 km
Alicante Airport – approx. 50 minutes
The property market is very diverse; however, the predominant housing consists of low-rise buildings, bungalows and terraced houses located in residential communities with shared swimming pools. This type of property is most often chosen by buyers purchasing a second home in Spain. In the first line and in direct proximity to the beaches, detached villas and smaller apartment buildings are more common. Many properties are within walking distance of shops, restaurants and leisure areas, allowing daily life without the need to use a car.
Orihuela Costa is ideal for those who want to live near the sea while having full infrastructure, an active year-round environment and the possibility to choose between a quiet residential urbanisation and livelier areas near beaches and commercial centres. It is also one of the most versatile locations on the southern Costa Blanca — suitable for a holiday apartment, permanent residence or rental investment.
