Calpe is one of the most distinctive towns on the Costa Blanca North, located between Benidorm and Moraira, about 75 km from Alicante Airport. The town combines the atmosphere of a traditional fishing village with modern tourist and residential infrastructure. The symbol of Calpe is the impressive Peñón de Ifach rock rising directly above the sea and visible from many kilometres along the coastline.
One of the town’s greatest attractions is its wide sandy beaches with gentle access to the water. The best known are Playa Arenal-Bol located near the town centre and Playa de la Fossa (Levante) situated at the foot of the Ifach rock. Both beaches feature promenades, restaurants, bars and full facilities, and regularly receive the Blue Flag certification.
The town functions throughout the year. In addition to tourism, it has well-developed infrastructure including schools, private medical centres, supermarkets, a fishing and yacht harbour, and good road connections to the AP-7 motorway. Thanks to this, Calpe is popular both among permanent residents and second-home owners.
The centre features a historic old town with narrow streets and traditional architecture, while the harbour area hosts a fish market and numerous restaurants specialising in Mediterranean cuisine. Just a few minutes from the town begins the Peñón de Ifach Natural Park, with a walking route leading to a panoramic viewpoint. Nearby are also the Las Salinas salt lakes, where flamingos can often be seen.
Calpe is one of the most active sports destinations on the entire Costa Blanca. It is particularly well known among cyclists, both amateurs and professional teams who organise winter training camps here. The surrounding area offers hundreds of kilometres of cycling routes, from flat coastal roads to demanding mountain climbs towards Coll de Rates, Benissa or Guadalest.
The town is also an excellent destination for hiking and mountain walks. Popular routes include trails around the Peñón de Ifach, in the Sierra de Oltà mountains and scenic paths along the coastal cliffs. Thanks to the mild climate, outdoor activities are possible almost all year round, from cycling and running to water sports, diving and paddle boarding.
In recent years Calpe has also become one of the fastest growing real estate markets on the Costa Blanca North. The town attracts investors and buyers looking for higher-standard properties, and its skyline is gradually expanding with new residential developments.
Many new projects are being built, mainly modern apartment buildings close to the beach and luxury villas on the hills with panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Peñón de Ifach. Many of these developments offer high-end finishes, private pools, large terraces and contemporary architecture. As a result, Calpe is increasingly seen as a location combining Mediterranean lifestyle with the luxury property segment.
The development of new projects and growing interest from international buyers mean that the town continues to expand dynamically while preserving its distinctive landscape and natural surroundings.
