Dénia – a coastal city with a port, beaches and year-round life

Dénia is one of the most important towns on the northern Costa Blanca, located between Valencia and Alicante at the foot of Mount Montgó. It combines the character of a seaside resort, a port city and a place for permanent living, which is why it functions all year round and does not depend solely on seasonal tourism. The town offers full urban infrastructure — schools, a hospital, shops and services — making it suitable both for holiday stays and relocation.

The central landmark of the town is the Castillo de Dénia, situated on a hill between the port and the old town. Around it are pedestrian streets, markets, restaurants and squares where life continues throughout the year. Dénia also has a large port and marina, from which ferries depart to the Balearic Islands (including Ibiza and Mallorca), reinforcing its role as a real port city.

The town is also known for its gastronomy. Dénia has been awarded the UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy title, which distinguishes it from other coastal towns. Many restaurants specialise in Mediterranean cuisine and seafood, and local dishes are based on fresh fish from the fishing port. Gastronomy is an important part of daily life and attracts visitors throughout the year.

One of the greatest advantages of Dénia is the diversity of its coastline, as the town offers two very different beach areas.

Las Marinas (north of the port)
This area features several kilometres of wide sandy beaches with a gentle entrance to the sea. The beaches are comfortable for everyday use, walking and swimming, making them especially popular with families and long-term residents. Along this coastline are holiday apartments, residential complexes with pools and beachfront restaurants.

Las Rotas (south of the port)
This area has a completely different, more natural character. The coastline consists of rocky coves, crystal-clear water and walking paths along the sea. It is a quieter zone, valued by those seeking tranquillity, views and contact with nature. Detached villas and low-density housing dominate here, and the area is popular among swimmers and snorkelling enthusiasts.

Thanks to this, Dénia allows residents to choose between a typical beach lifestyle and a more private setting by a natural coastline — without changing town.
