Gran Alacant – a coastal residential area near Alicante and the airport

Gran Alacant is a large residential district administratively belonging to the town of Santa Pola, located about 15 minutes from Alicante Airport and around 20 minutes from the centre of Alicante. It sits on a gentle elevation above the sea, which provides views from many points over the coastline, the Bay of Alicante and Tabarca Island.

It is not a traditional town with a historic centre, but a modern residential area made up of urbanisations, townhouses, bungalows and apartments. As a result, Gran Alacant has a distinctly residential character and functions throughout the year — most residents live here permanently rather than only during the holiday season.

The main advantage of the location is the proximity to one of the most natural beaches in the region — Playa del Carabassí. It is a wide sandy beach with dunes and protected vegetation, situated within a natural area. It offers a gentle entrance into the sea, wooden walkways across the dunes, lifeguards in season and beach bars in summer.

Along the cliffs there are walking routes and viewpoints, and the area is popular for outdoor activities such as walking, running and cycling. Nearby is also the Clot de Galvany nature reserve with walking trails and birdwatching areas.

Gran Alacant provides full daily infrastructure: supermarkets, restaurants, cafés, pharmacies, medical centres, gyms, schools and services. There are also international schools and bus connections linking the area with Alicante, Santa Pola and the airport.

The proximity of Santa Pola gives access to the harbour, marina, fish market and restaurants, while Alicante offers large shopping centres, hospitals and rail connections.
