Polop – a peaceful town with views and greenery
Polop is a charming town located a few kilometres inland from the Costa Blanca North coastline, between La Nucía and Benidorm, about 1 hour from Alicante Airport. Situated at the foot of the Ponoig and Sierra Bernia mountains, it stands out with a much greener landscape than typical coastal resorts in the region.
The town has a residential character rather than a holiday-resort atmosphere. Life here is calm and continues throughout the year. At the same time, the beaches of Benidorm, Albir and Altea and full urban infrastructure can be reached in just 10–15 minutes.
Its slightly elevated position makes the climate more comfortable than directly by the sea. In summer the temperatures feel lower and the air is less humid. The surrounding mountains protect the area from wind, while valleys, citrus groves and green areas create pleasant living conditions year-round. It is one of the few places on the Costa Blanca where homes are surrounded by greenery, trees and natural vegetation. The area is especially appreciated by remote workers, families and residents planning permanent living.
Many properties in Polop offer open views of the valley, mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. Terraces and gardens are an important part of daily life — the town is chosen by people who want a quieter environment while still living close to the coast. The surroundings are ideal for outdoor activities such as walking, hiking and cycling routes, with nearby trails, viewpoints and natural recreation areas.
Polop has preserved the traditional character of a Spanish town with a central square, restaurants and local shops. At the same time, it is only a few minutes’ drive from La Nucía, where international schools, sports facilities and service centres are located. The proximity of Benidorm provides access to hospitals, shopping centres, a marina and entertainment without living in a dense resort environment.
The historic part of Polop is located on a hill and forms the town’s most distinctive feature. Narrow streets, stone houses and small squares create a typical Spanish atmosphere, and at the top there is a former castle and viewpoint overlooking the valley, mountains and the Costa Blanca coastline.
One of the best-known places is Fuente de los Chorros — a traditional square with a historic fountain with multiple drinking water springs and a popular meeting point for residents. Nearby there are local restaurants and bars operating all year round.
The old town allows Polop to combine modern villa developments with traditional architecture and local lifestyle — residents can enjoy both the quiet of residential areas and the everyday atmosphere of a Spanish town.
