Calpe – a coastal town beneath the Peñón de Ifach rock
Calpe is one of the most recognisable towns on the northern Costa Blanca, located between Benidorm and Moraira, approximately one hour from Alicante Airport. The town combines the character of a former fishing village with well-developed residential and tourist infrastructure, making it suitable both for holiday stays and for year-round living. Its most iconic landmark is the impressive Peñón de Ifach rock rising directly above the sea and visible from many kilometres along the coastline.
One of Calpe’s main attractions is its wide sandy beaches with gentle access to the water. The best known are Playa Arenal-Bol near the town centre and Playa de la Fossa (Levante) located at the foot of the Ifach rock. Both beaches offer promenades, restaurants, cafés and full services, and regularly receive the Blue Flag quality award.
The town functions throughout the entire year. Besides tourism, it has complete infrastructure including schools, private medical centres, supermarkets, a fishing port and a marina, as well as convenient access to the AP-7 motorway. For this reason, Calpe is popular both with permanent residents and owners of second homes.
The historic centre features narrow streets and traditional architecture, while the port area hosts a fish market and numerous restaurants specialising in Mediterranean cuisine. A few minutes from the centre begins the Peñón de Ifach Natural Park with a walking trail leading to a scenic viewpoint. Nearby are also the Las Salinas salt lakes, where flamingos can often be seen.
Calpe is also one of the most active sports destinations on the Costa Blanca. It is particularly well known among cyclists, including professional teams that organise winter training camps here. The surrounding area offers hundreds of kilometres of cycling routes, from flat coastal roads to demanding mountain climbs towards Coll de Rates, Benissa and Guadalest.
The town is equally attractive for hiking and outdoor activities. Popular routes include the trails around Peñón de Ifach, the mountains of Sierra de Oltà and scenic coastal cliff paths. Thanks to the mild climate, outdoor activity is possible almost all year round, including cycling, running, water sports, diving and paddle boarding.
Distances:
Moraira – approx. 15 km
Altea – approx. 11 km
Benidorm – approx. 25 km

The property market in Calpe is diverse, ranging from apartments near the beach and in the town centre to sea-view villas located on surrounding hills. The location is chosen both by buyers seeking a quieter lifestyle than in large cities and by investors interested in holiday rentals, especially among active clients.
Calpe combines Mediterranean atmosphere, nature and an active lifestyle with everyday comfort, making it an attractive location both for a holiday home and for permanent residence on the northern Costa Blanca.
