Calpe – a coastal town beneath the Peñón de Ifach rock
Calpe is one of the most characteristic towns on the Costa Blanca North, located between Benidorm and Moraira, about 75 km from Alicante Airport. The town combines the atmosphere of a traditional fishing village with modern tourist and residential infrastructure. The symbol of Calpe is the impressive Peñón de Ifach rock rising directly above the sea and visible from many kilometres along the coastline.
The main advantage of the town is its wide sandy beaches with gentle access to the water. The most well-known are Playa Arenal-Bol located near the centre and Playa de la Fossa (Levante) at the foot of the Ifach rock. Both feature promenades, restaurants, bars and full facilities, and regularly receive the Blue Flag certification.
The town functions all year round. In addition to tourism, it offers developed infrastructure including schools, private medical centres, supermarkets, a fishing and yacht harbour and convenient road connections to the AP-7 motorway. For this reason, Calpe is popular both among permanent residents and second-home owners.
In the centre there is an old town with narrow streets and traditional buildings, while near the harbour a fish market operates alongside numerous Mediterranean restaurants. A few minutes from the town begins the Peñón de Ifach Natural Park with a walking trail leading to a viewpoint. Nearby are also the Las Salinas salt lakes, where flamingos can often be seen.
Moraira is approximately 15 km away, Altea about 11 km, Benidorm about 25 km and Jávea about 30 km. Alicante Airport can be reached in around 60 minutes.
The property market in Calpe is diverse — from beachfront and central apartments to sea-view villas on the hills. The location is chosen both by buyers looking for a quieter lifestyle than in a large city and by investors interested in holiday rentals.
