Altea – the white town by the Mediterranean Sea

Altea is one of the most distinctive towns on the northern Costa Blanca, located between Benidorm and Calpe, about 50 minutes from Alicante Airport. The town is best known for its historic old town set on a hill, with white buildings, cobbled streets and viewpoints overlooking the entire coastline. The characteristic dome of the church Nuestra Señora del Consuelo is visible from many kilometres away and is the symbol of the town.

Altea differs from many seaside resorts — it is not a typical tourist destination focused only on the summer season. It is a शांत, year-round functioning town with many permanent residents. There are shops, restaurants, schools, services and medical centres, and everyday life continues outside the holiday season.

The development in Altea is mostly low-rise and spread out. In the centre there are apartments and traditional townhouses, while on the hillsides villas with sea views and smaller residential areas dominate. Compared with the southern Costa Blanca, there are fewer large apartment complexes and high-rise buildings, giving the town a calmer and more orderly character.

Altea is particularly suitable for permanent living or longer stays. The location is chosen by people who value aesthetics, tranquillity and scenery rather than purely holiday tourism.
